Viber for 32 bit ubuntu (debian package) not officially supported yet (14 august 2016). So we have to work a little bit hard to configure viber in ubuntu 32 bit system.I will use ubuntu latest version (ubuntu 16.04 LTS). I have successfully configured Viber on ubuntu 16.04 and I hope anyone will be able to do so if he follows these steps.
[We are using wine and windows binary package in this purpose.]
At first we have to install wine (if not installed ) . Open terminal and write.
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine
It will take time.
Hope wine installation successfully performed.
Now we have to download viber for windows . We will be able to find viber in their official site get viber.
Next we have to run downloaded “ViberSetup.exe” from terminal using wine.Let’s say we have “viberSetup.exe” at “/home/username/Downloads” directory. In terminal we can run using following commands.
cd /home/username/Downloads
wine ViberSetup.exe
This will launch a window where we will find necessary steps to install vibe (if you dont understand anything inly “next” and “finish” button will perform everything don’t worry).
If installation performs properly a window will be shown like this.
Congratulation ,you have successfully installed viber on ubuntu 🙂 .
Possible Errors
There is a common problem .Which shows a window with message internet connection problems like shonw in the figure.
If you find this error (and your internet connection is good) just a little step can solve this.
Download these two files :[downloading first one is enough but if not please download both]
https://www.thawte.com/roots/thawte_Premium_Server_CA.pem
and
Copy them in “/usr/local/share/ca-certificates”
sudo cp thawte_Premium_Server_CA.pem /usr/local/share/ca-certificates/thawte_Premium_Server_CA.pem
sudo cp Thawte_Premium_Server_CA.crt /usr/local/share/ca-certificates/Thawte_Premium_Server_CA.crt
then run following command on terminal
sudo update-ca-certificates
Then restart your pc (a logout and login should work).This should correct this error.
Note. if still the problem occurs you can try again using a earlier version of viber you can download one from viber older versions .
